For additional context, Paythen sends any custom fields on a plan as metadata to your Stripe account. You can also use this in integrations.

What is metadata?

Stripe supports additional information being sent to it for payments, customers and subscriptions. This lets us add more context in your Stripe dashboard directly for each record we create.

How does it work?

Paythen creates metadata in your Stripe account in a few instances:

If you add custom fields on a plan (visible or invisible), then each time a new customer signs up to that plan, we send the labels and their answers to those fields as metadata to the customer record as well as the subscription record (for payment plans and subscriptions). For once-off payments, the metadata is sent to the customer record only.

When you create a new plan in your Paythen account, we include the plan payment link and description (if you add one) as metadata to the product and pricing plan in your Stripe account.

Why does this matter?

This gives you a permanent record and more context from within your Stripe account dashboard. Plus, you can now use this metadata in any integrations you have with your Stripe account to send relevant customer and subscription data to your CRM and any other sources.

If you ever decide to stop using Paythen, you'll still have this information available in your Stripe account which can be useful for reference and record-keeping. Although we hope you'll stay as we improve Paythen to make it even more useful for you and your customers.
